Xmas in July 2010

Christmas in July was celebrated on Saturday, 24 July in hilarious style at Sunlovers’  Retreat.  The comfortably-sized group who attended were treated to the warmth of the wood heater in the clubroom to balance out the uncertain weather conditions and some ventured outdoors for a really funny game of croquet in the afternoon, following a delicious sausage sizzle provided by our always-generous hosts, Sue and Mike , for lunch.    Mike , you can come and cook for us anytime and bring that new barbecue area with you!

A bit of fun with Jenga & Eight Ball helped to pass the afternoon away.

Happy hour preceded a beautiful Christmas dinner, with a selection of many tasty and beautifully-prepared dishes donated by each and every one of us.   As if that was not enough to fill the hungriest tummy, there was still more to come as our hosts dished up Christmas pudding with all the trimmings.    Santa himself could not have done better.

Following this, we exchanged our $5 gifts but not in the way most people are used to.   I-want-your-gift-instead was the name of the game as gifts were taken from others with amazing speed and lot of laughter.   Some people were even lucky enough to keep the gifts they started with!   This is a gift-giving game everyone should take part in at least once in their life.   Guaranteed to tickle the sense of humour every time!

Then more fun, as volunteers amongst us donned cardboard reindeer antlers with the names of celebrities of all kinds attached to them.   The volunteers had to guess who they were by asking the only-too-willing audience.   We think a little bit of cheating here and there in the way of big hints to help volunteers along was going on, but the laughter and enjoyment everyone was getting from it all was priceless.

Sunday was a relaxed day with another delicious sausage sizzle a-la-Sue-and- Mike cooked and served up with a smile at lunchtime.

Altogether a top weekend, leaving everyone in excellent spirits.

Quote for the occasion:

There are many types of ships.   There are wooden ships, plastic ships and metal ships, but the best and most important types of ships are friendships.

Cheers from your friendly editors, Bob & Joyce.
